Welcome!
I'm Amy Thornton and the creator of this space. I don't consider myself a journalist, but I play one on Rumble. LoL! If you're a God-loving, America-loving Patriot like me, maybe you've noticed the lack of "the other side of the story" in Legacy media over the past many years and especially so since the pandemic began in 2020. I have created Beacon News West Virginia to share, as Paul Harvey used to say, "...the rest of the story."
I'm a curious person who enjoys learning and especially listening to other people share their stories-- and there's an endless array of them right in our own back yard in southern West Virginia. I'm an amateur when it comes to videography, but I sure enjoy telling stories through this medium and have been doing so since October of 2020 when I started my first YouTube channel called, The Good Path, to document my hiking experiences.
On February 24, 2022, I started Beacon News West Virginia (originally called simply, Beacon News) a media outlet to amplify voices rarely covered in mainstream media. The catalyst was listening to young students speak at their school boards during the height of the pandemic, expressing their frustration at the forced masked mandate. One young lady stated, "no one is asking us how we feel".
I wanted to ask them... I wanted to listen and share their stories.
That episode, "Mask Free", was the first to be published on my Rumble Channel. In the two years that have followed, I have produced many more episodes to share unique people and events from around the Mountain State. Some are personal interest stories, others offer profiles for political candidates or highlight new businesses. My interviews are as diverse as the wonderful folks who call West Virginia home.
Soon after the production of video segments in 2022, I began writing articles as well, to accompany video episodes and to offer my personal opinions on societal issues. My viewpoints are conservative and rooted in my Orthodox Christian faith.
On occasion, I also publish press releases. If you have an event or news item that you would like to have published on Beacon News West Virginia or a tip about a unique story in our state, please send an email to: Beacon News West Virginia
Thank you for checking out my space! If you've read an article that hit home or became inspired by someone highlighted in an episode, please drop a line to let me know. I would love to hear from you.
Live Courageously!
