Update: The Night of Awareness Event planned for February 29, 2024 mentioned in this article has been postponed.
In 2019 many Americans were shocked to read about the arrest of Jeffrey Epstein for trafficking minors. Five years later, we are still learning about the extent of the case and the high-profile individuals involved in the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world— the sale of children for sex.
Others, such as Exodus Cry or Shared Hope International were not surprised at all, as they’ve been working to rescue children out of sex trafficking for decades. The 2023 box office smash hit, Sound of Freedom, brought the real-life story of Operation Underground Railroad hero, Tim Ballard, into the hearts of millions. The awareness of what some vulnerable children endure and the lucky ones are rescued from, has given rise to increased momentum in the United States to do something to battle this evil.
The compassionate souls helping to restore the survivors are the feature of a new documentary called “Seeds of Freedom” by military veteran filmmakers, Round Table Film Productions. West Virginia’s own Zera House, located in the southern coalfields of McDowell County, is highlighted in the film, sharing their insights and beautifully restored house and gardens.
From the website of Round Table Film Productions, on Seeds of Freedom:
“Through evocative storytelling, this documentary intricately weaves narratives from the trafficked, the brave souls combatting this heinous crime, and the selfless individuals dedicated to restoring victims to a life of normalcy. Central to its heart is the Zera House, an emblem of hope and refuge.”
The documentary is making its debut in West Virginia for a special night of awareness at 6pm on February 29, 2024. Marquee Cinemas in Beckley, in conjunction with Zera House & Her Plan will be hosting the event, which offers free admission but asks guests to register at this link: Human Trafficking Night of Awareness.
