Some members of the Fayette County Prayer Group are collaborating to sponsor a Young Christian Writers Contest for teens within the Mountain State. The goals are to promote literary skills and shine a light on an emerging demographic, teenage Christians.
In 2023, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes grew in membership and chapters within West Virginia schools and now these same student participants are standing up to lead small groups of their peers in Bible study and devotions. During the weeks of the revival at Asbury University in Kentucky, many student led groups made the road trip to experience the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and to worship with other believers. Likewise, during the March for Life in Washington D.C., many youth joined the Orthodox Christians for Life, and went, en masse, to stand up with thousands of like-minded individuals for the sanctity of human life.
While also considering all the abrupt changes that have taken place in America over the last few years including cyberbullying , the pandemic, lock-downs, remote learning, wearing masks, harmful subjects being taught in schools, such as CRT and gender ideology, it's not difficult to consider the chaotic world our young people are experiencing.
Every week there seems to be a new young person in the news being highlighted for their courage. Whether that's because biological males are competing in women's sports or another detransitioner is speaking out against the detriments of "gender affirming care", this young generation is producing heroes from the mix of moral courage faced with complex adversity.
A few months ago, Liam Morrison made national headlines when, as a 7th grader, he decided to sue his school for censoring his right to wear a t-shirt that simply stated, "There are only two genders". America's young people are experiencing a world that those of us from Generation X could never have imagined.
Many people in the active Fayette County Prayer group enjoy hearing the testimonies of students and offer prayerful support for the unique challenges they face. Hosting and promoting a writing contest for teenagers (15-18 yrs) is a unique way to celebrate their literary talents as well as their Christian experience in a dynamic world.
Beacon News West Virginia will be hosting a page within our website with all information related to the Young Christian Writers Contest, which will take place during the month of July. Check in regularly for updates or visit the Fayette County Prayer Group on Facebook and follow #FCPGwritingcontest .
