In March of this year, West Virginia became one of the nineteen states that passed legislation banning child mutilation, otherwise known as “gender affirming care” by those who deny an evidence based science approach. Evidence based medicine, such as researched and reported by international organization, SEGM indicates this type of “treatment” is detrimental to our young population. The total number of states now protecting children, in September 2023, is up to twenty-two. The spike in detransitioners vocalizing harms from the healthcare community and suicide rates among individuals identifying as “transgender” speak to this reality.
Many European countries, with Denmark being the most recent, have sharply restricted youth gender transitions and the world’s largest pediatric gender clinic, Tavistock, is closing amid controversy and want of a new model for treating gender dysphoria.
So, why, after the passage of WV HB 2007, were some proponents of gender mutilation and child sterilization celebrating? Because, thanks to Senator Takubo, a pulmonologist who has ties to WVU Medicine, WV HB 2007 was amended, allowing for gender altering medication under a narrow set of circumstances. A loophole was created.
Amendment supporter, Sen. Mike Maroney, (West Virginia's 2nd Senate District) also a physician with ties to WVU medicine, said he voted for the bill, but was disappointed in its restrictions on medicine. In an article for Metro News from March 2023 by Brad McElhinny, Sen. Maroney said, “These kids commit suicide. There’ll be some suicides. …I don’t think we should legislate drug treatments or cancer treatments or psychiatric treatments or blood pressure treatments. I don’t think we should legislate the standards for how to take an appendix out and legislate how to read an MRI. I don’t understand it.”
Sen. Maroney apparently is unfamiliar with the harms incurred from puberty blockers that were experienced at Tavistock as well as many vocal detransitioners in the United States such as Chloe Cole and Prisha Mosley. Luka Hein, a 21-year old from Minnesota is currently suing her physicians at the University of Nebraska Medical Center for the radical “gender care” she received. These are cases our lawmakers should be familiar with before jumping onboard to endorse experimental medicine, no matter the potential monetary gains to WVU Medicine.
Sen. Maroney may also be unfamiliar with the cases documented in Abigail Shrier’s book that took a nosedive into the gender craze in America, Irreversible Damage, since he flippantly compares blood pressure treatments with drugs that are sterilizing children. Drugs that may enslave them to Big Pharma for a lifetime. No matter how a person looks at “gender care”, it is experimental medicine lacking informed consent and perpetuating harm to America’s youth.
Chris Rose, originally from the southern coalfields of West Virginia, and now residing in north-central West Virginia, is challenging Sen. Mike Maroney for his senate seat. As part of his no-nonsense campaign as a Constitutional Conservative and Christian, Mr. Rose has made his opinions on gender ideology and parental rights very clear through his website, social media platforms and a variety of interviews.
Beacon News West Virginia reached out to Mr. Chris Rose to ask for a statement to distinguish himself from incumbent Sen. Mike Maroney on the issue of protecting the children of the Mountain State:
“West Virginia and America’s children are under attack from the radical left’s forces of evil and their Marxist agenda.
The Marxists have never had more influence and control over the cultural and societal institutions traditionally relied upon to shape our children’s minds. They facilitate the sexualization of our children with pornographic reading materials, groom them with the cult of transgenderism and Drag Queen Storytime, and advocate for gender-affirming care, leaving them permanently mutilated and scarred for life.
My RINO opponent has failed to protect the children of West Virginia and refuses to fight back against the radical left’s “woke” ideology. When given the opportunity to put an end to all “transgender hormonal treatments,” he helped craft and pass a loophole that allows the assault on our children to continue. As West Virginia’s next state senator for District 2, I will fight to protect our children and fight back against the radical left and their groomers. I will introduce legislation to close any and all loopholes that my RINO opponent has put in place and ensure that all of West Virginia’s children are protected against this evil.”
